busy busy busy

So yes a little slow on the posting I know but I have good reason. The holiday's really keep us medics in service.  One day I will learn to say no to picking up an extra shift and I also had to work Christmas ( Always a hard shift to pull not so much due to not being with family but more to seeing people sick or hurt on the day that is meant to be joyous ) My sugars are getting better back under the 180's which I can deal with. tonight we were out waiting for an EMS call and decided to stop and eat and well taco bell was golden in our minds so we stopped and ate and from behind us in line I heard this little boy say to his mom she has a pump mom does that mean she is allergic to sugar too?? I turned around and his mom promptly apolgized I said no need and said hi to the little guy he was so cute 6 yrs old and he showed me his pump he said his was blue cause he liked the blue transformers I said mine is pink cause I like pink flowers he looked at me and said but you are in blue clothes mine goes better with your clothes ( ohh geeze fashion advice from a 6 yr old ) My partner had a good laugh and as we all were heading out he asked us if that was our ambulance I said yes and showed him around and he got to play with the lights it made his day. Before he left he said whats your number? I said  911 he said no silly and put his pump up and I said ohh umm let me look. I am 167 he said I beat you I am 146. He looked at me said good bye and his mom thanked us and he said to me stay low but not to low with the cutest smile on his face and I nodded. I thought about it for a moment how innocent he is and for him to deal with diabetes but with such a brave face kids are so amazing and now anytime I get mad over a little thing like a bad sensor or putting in the extra time to count my carbs I just think of him and remember if he can do it then what am I whining about? well back to work more calls to come till i get off at 8 am happy new yrs all and please be safe

ramdom

I spent all night in the ER with my God daugther she won't eat anything won't drink anything and crys all the time and he poo isn't looking good either 4 dipers of poo in 5 hrs ='s bad. they gave us zofran and we are hoping this passes soon they said bring her back if she keeps don't this path in the next couple of days so we are just trying to keep her happy. other notes work was good. My blood sugars were in tn 300's not good I know but due to her being sick and working I just have to play with my basal. It is freezing up here in NY snow and ice I spun out  2 times yesterday on my way to the ER with herno damage and didn't hit anything but still scary none the less. I am coming to the conclusion that sleep is over rated and I still have much to do. I swear if I get one more ambulance call for someone whos doc office is at the hospital I will scream might as well have a taxi sign on my rig. A ambulance is for emergency only people!!

starting of my blog

A little about me....... I'm carey but you can call me sunshine ( thats what everyone calls me ) I live in NY with my husband of almost 2 yrs. I am a paramedic and I also have type 1 diabetes. Diabetes does not describe me but it does describe how strong I am having lived with this disease for so long. no it is not horrible but it is a huge part of my life. My whole day schedule and whatnot revolves around a number on a glucose meter.I wear an insulin pump the minimed 722 with a CGMS. I love my pump it is pink and it helpped change my health for the better.  I love working towards finding a cure rather it be charity walks or writing the goverment or educating others on the disease I will do it. In my house you find my dog walking around with a used test strip or old infusion set. You will see snow and lots of movies and music. As a medic I love my job. It makes me feel good to help others when they need it. I am going back to college to work on my nursing and then on to practicioner. I am prob. the most clumsy person on earth I have a talent of falling up the stairs or ripping an infusion site out because it gets stucks on door handles. I love the fast pased life and love learning more about medical aspects of my job not to mention the rush you get from working a call plus I love the scirens. so heres the start of a blog that will keep me sane or so I hope.
